The SOUTH-WEST GENEALOGIST - Historical Issues

The Group's monthly newsletter "The South-West Genealogist" was first published in February 1990. It includes general genealogical news, items of local interest and news on the activities of the Group.

From July 1991 a major feature of the newsletters is the inclusion of summarised Historical information ('Historicals') from the Warrnambool Standard newspaper. 'Historicals' are completed by volunteers, they vary in length and are not a complete index of items appearing in the newspaper. However they are an invaluable resource for people researching local people, businesses and events.

From July 1991 to November 2000, the 'Historicals' were from the corresponding month 75 years and 100 years ago (eg July 1991 included July 1916 and July 1891).

From February 2001 to November 2009, the 'Historicals' were from the corresponding month 100 years and 126 years ago (eg February 2001 included January & February 1901 and 1875).

From February 2010 to November 2017, the 'Historicals' were from the corresponding month 100 years ago (eg February 2010 included January & February 1910).

From February 2018 to November 2021, the 'Historicals' were from the corresponding month 108 years ago (eg February 2018 included January & February 1910).

2022 are from the corresponding month 130 years ago (eg February 2022 included January & February 1892).

The Warrnambool Standard has been digitised for the World War I years of 1914 to 1918. These can be accessed online through Trove.

We have digitised all past issues of The South-West Genealogist. Years 1990 - 2001 are available online. All other years are available at HeritageWorks only and are fully searchable.

The online files are in Adobe Acrobat PDF format and are fully searchable. To search for or find any word, name or phrase in an issue, use the "Edit/Find" command from within the Reader once the relevant issue has been loaded.
