ABOUT US

The Warrnambool Family History Group was formed in August 1980 and was previously known as the Warrnambool Area of the Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies. The Group achieved Incorporation in its own right on 26 October 2011. We are a volunteer run organisation.

The Group, in conjunction with the Warrnambool & District Historical Society, maintains and staffs a Reference Library at HeritageWorks, Gilles Street, Warrnambool which provides a range of resources for Australian and overseas research and collects and indexes local Family History material for the use of members and the public.

HeritageWorks is staffed by volunteers who have an interest in genealogy and experience in assisting others with accessing local resources.

The Group conducts monthly meetings, usually with a guest speaker on a topic of interest.

A monthly newsletter “The South-West Genealogist” is published ten times a year (February to November inclusive) which includes general genealogical news, items of local interest and news on the activities of the Group.

Cemetery walks are held in January, focused on a particular topic, which changes every year.
